A trek to the south and the north sides of the world’s third highest peak in a rarely visited and very remote area of Nepal. The trek takes you through pleasant villages and beautiful farmland for more than a week before reaching the high country at Gunsa. After Gunsa it takes another four days before reaching the the north side base camp Pang Pema (5100 m) with fantastic views of Makalu, Chamlang, Everest, Jannu and the Kanchenjunga massif along the way. The area has an abundance of wildlife including musk deer and blue sheep. We cross either the Mirgin La ( 4500 m) or the Lapsang La (5180 m) to reach the south side base camp. One of the most beautiful treks in the world!
The hidden kingdom of Mustang lies beyond the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massif in central Nepal. Mustang was opened to trekkers in 1991 and the Department of Immigration issues only a small number of special permits yearly. The area is a part of the Tibetan plateau and the 16th century monasteries remain active. We fly in to Jomsom and trek for two days along the busy pilgrim route to Muktinath before entering Mustang at Kagbeni. Mustangs lunar landscape is dominated by incredible rock-formations with distant snowcapped peaks under a turquoise sky. The trek takes us through an ancient culture with monasteries clinging to crumbling cliff-sides. After five days of trekking we reach the impressive walled capital Lo Manthang where we spend a couple of days exploring the area. We return to Jomsom and fly back to Kathmandu. An incredible trek through an ancient culture!
The trek around Manaslu (8156 m), the world’s eighth highest mountain, is a challenging trek off-the-beaten-track in an area where only a limited number of people are allowed each year. The trek starts in Gorkha and follows the Buri Gandalki Valley through lowland areas inhabited by Chetti, Bahun and Gurung people. After about one week we enter a high alpine valley with typical Tibetan villages and Buddhist monasteries In the high country we are rewarded with fantastic views of Manaslu in addition to Bauda Peak (6672 m), Himalchuli (7893 m), Peak 29 (7871 m), Manaslu North (7154 m) and Larkya Peak (7100 m). In the Sama valley we are only about 10 km from the Tibetan border and in Samagaon (3450 m) we visit the green glacial lake of Birendra before moving on to Samdo village (3900 m). We spend a day in Larkya Bazaar before crossing Larkya La (5135 m) and descend to the Annapurna Circuit trail with great views of the Annapurnas. We end our trek in Beshishar.
